What our clients have to say

Iceland Adventure

January 2, 2024

Deluxe Iceland took the guess work out of planning an adventurous vacation for my family with 3 children, aged 11, 11, 9. They carefully crafted an itinerary that was exciting, educational and took into consideration that we were traveling with children. The hotel suites were phenomenal with friendly staff that were willing to answer questions and make every accommodation to our requests. The activities, which included ATVs, waterfalls, snowmobiling, geothermal spa, farm visits, lava center, park hikes, geysirs, etc. were carefully mapped out to maximize our 6 day trip. Deluxe Iceland staff were available in the days leading up to our arrival and promptly answered any/all questions while we were in Iceland. I would highly recommend using them to plan your trip.

Itinerary

When you arrive in Iceland at Keflavik Airport, your private driver and Deluxe Iceland representative will greet you at the arrival hall and take you to Reykjavik to pick-up your rental car and go through your trip itinerary in detail with you at your hotel. After settling in you will have the rest of the day to explore this northernmost capital city of the world with its abundance of museums, restaurants and bars to suit all tastes.

On this day you will drive the Golden Circle route, which includes one of Iceland’s most popular places and attractions. You will start with a stop at Þingvellir National Park, where you can learn about the world’s first parliament and enjoy a light hike through the park (Approx. drive 55 minutes). You will head to Geysir Geothermal Area to see the exploding geysers and the lively Strokkur which spouts water 30 metres (100 ft) into the air every few minutes. Afterwards you will visit Gullfoss Waterfall – one of Iceland’s most beautiful waterfalls, before heading to Hotel Rangá for the night.

On this day you will get right into the action and head straight for the beautiful Icelandic south shore. A guide will take you on the ice for a hiking tour on Sólheimajökull glacier. You will see both the Seljalandsfoss waterfall and Skógafoss waterfall, as well as Reynisdrangar Cliffs. After all this head further East to yourhotel for the night.

On this day you will visit the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon where you will enjoy everything the lagoon has to offer. Go on an exciting boat trip, sailing among the huge icebergs in the picturesque scenery of Jökulsárlón. On the boat you get to taste the 1000 year old ice and if you are lucky you might even see seals.

On this day you will start to drive to the Eastfjords of Iceland. East Iceland is characterized by small villages, dramatic coastlines, narrow fjords, waterfalls and mountains. The nature is always close and the scenery is breathtaking. The first stop of the day will be at Vestrahorn or Vesturhorn or Stokksnes – these are all names for this same place. The Horn area is below Vestra-Horn, a 454-meter-high mountain. It is an interesting geological site composed of un-stratified plutonic rock, mostly gabbro but with some granophyre. East of the mountain is a strange-shaped outcrop called Brunnhorn that stretches out to sea. You will also visit the remote Viking village there. In reality, it is a film set for an Icelandic movie that was never filmed. It remains open to the public.

On this day you will explore the natural beauty of Lake Mývatn and its lunar landscapes with visits to the lava formations at Dimmuborgir and Skútustaðagígar pseudo craters. Mývatn is a volcanic lake in northern Iceland. A short distance away, near Námafjall Mountain, is Hverir, a hot-springs area with boiling mud pots and fumaroles. Dimmuborgir is an incredible lava field, packed with sky-high rock pillars and lava caves. The dramatic expanse formed in a volcanic eruption 2300 years ago. After exploring the surrounding area around Mývatn you will go bathing in Mývatn Nature Baths that have a naturally heated man-made lagoon, with mineral-rich waters known for their health-giving properties before checking in at Fosshotel Mývatn for the night.

Start the day by heading to Húsavik (Approx drive 40 minutes). The town of Húsavík sits on the eastern shore of Shaky Bay, known around the world as the Whale Capital of Iceland. It is also the site of the first house built in Iceland, in the year 860, by Swedish Viking. Go on a big whale and puffin watching tour in a speedboat before enjoying a nice lunch in this small town with only about 2,300 inhabitants. Next stop is the powerful Goðafoss Waterfall on your way to Akureyri – the capital of the north. Visit the popular Akureyri Church and continue to Siglufjörður Town where you will spend the night. Siglo Hotel is built into the fisherman’s marina. All rooms at Siglo Hotel have wonderful views of the beautiful surrounding mountains and peaceful environment.

In the morning you will head to Hofsos Pools. The swimming pool in Hofsós is one of the most beautiful swimming pools in Iceland. It was built on the hillside over the sea and the view from it is over the fjord and to Drangey island. After bathing in a geothermal bath you will enjoy a nice lunch in Sauðarkrókur Town and continue on your way to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Enjoy the stunning landscape on your way to Stykkishólmur where you will check-in at Fosshotel Stykkishólmur.

Start the day by exploring the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. The Snæfellsnes glacier is a volcano and is believed to be one of the seven chakras (energy centers) in the world. You will take a look at Kirkjufell Mountain which is one of Iceland’s most photographed mountains. Others stop at beautiful cliff formations at Arnarstapi and Hellnar.

On your last day in Iceland head to relax at the Blue Lagoon before your departure. You will have premium access to the Blue Lagoon to soak in geothermal waters in one of the wonders of the world. Afterwards you will drop your rental car off at Keflavik Airport and check in for your flight.
