Incredible company and guide!
LeAnne, November 2022
We schedule a week visit to Iceland at the end of Sept for the week of Thanksgiving through Victor at Deluxe Iceland. They gave our family of 5 (ages 13, 15, and 18) what we all consider the best vacation we have ever had and we have Deluxe Iceland to thank! They tailored the entire trip to the type of activities our family enjoys while still managing for us to cover all of the highlights of Iceland at this time of the year. They also managed to do this within 6 weeks of visiting. Jonas was our private guide and driver the entire time. All 5 of us absolutely adored him and he added a number of things that made our trip special. He has the perfect balance of knowing how involved to be and when it is time to chill or have family time. We were able to see the Northern Lights our second night in Iceland and Jonas took the time to make sure we had all the family pictures we needed to create our Christmas card and then had hot chocolate brewing in the back of the car to our surprise. When it was too windy one day to snow mobile, he suggested we go on ATVs and it was definitely the most favorite thing for our boys. Every day was something new, wonderful and private. The restaurants were equally amazing and varied and Jonas managed to find places with the best fries- which was what was most important to my daughter. The country and people in Iceland are absolutely amazing. I want to go back in the summer and experience new things. Highlights of our trip were: ice caving, seeing the Northern lights, visiting a family for a day of life on a traditional dairy farm (which surprisingly was one of my kids favorite things), private yacht to see the whales, walking, shopping and eating around Reykjavik (definitely go to Apotek), 4 wheeling in the snow and seeing hidden waterfalls. Blue Lagoon is also a must and I would go upon arrival vs. on your way out. We arrived at 6:30am and were there by 8:15 and it was a perfect way to start after getting no sleep on the flight.
Itinerary
When you arrive in Iceland at Keflavik Airport, your private driver and Deluxe Iceland representative will greet you at the arrival hall and take you to Reykjavik to pick-up your rental car and go through your trip itinerary in detail with you at your hotel. After settling in you will have the rest of the day to explore this northernmost capital city of the world with its abundance of museums, restaurants and bars to suit all tastes.
On this day you will begin your journey by driving through the beautiful Borgarfjörður area. Start by visiting the twin waterfalls Hraunfossar and Barnafoss along the way to Húsafell where you will enjoy a nice lunch before taking the Into the Glacier Tour.
On this day you will drive to the geographically diverse Snæfellsnes peninsula, that is often called Iceland in miniature for its various landscapes. Drive along the scenic coast that offers sights like the Dritvík Cove, the Lóndrangar cliffs, the Arnarstapi cliffs, Hellnar and other small fishing villages. You might even see the mighty Snæfellsjökull glacier that many believed to be one of Earth’s seven major energy centres. It was also used as the backdrop to Jules Verne’s famous novel “Journey to the Centre of the Earth.”
On this day you will drive the Golden Circle, which is one of Iceland’s most popular routes. Start the day by visiting Þingvellir National Park, where you will have the chance to walk on a path in the rift valley between the North American and Eurasion tectonic plates. You will then drive to the geothermal area in Haukadalur and see the mighty Geysir and it’s active neighbour, Strokkur which spouts water every few minutes.
On this day you will start by driving to Seljalandsfoss waterfall before heading to Skógafoss Waterfall. There you can take time to catch the perfect photo with this amazing waterfall and take 527 steps up to the observation platform above Skógafoss. Next you will stop at Reynisfjara black sand beach where you can see the jagged basalt rock formations of Reynisdrangar and Dyrhólaey. Visit the small town of Vík and enjoy the stunning views before heading back to your hotel for the night.
On your last day in Iceland you will drive the backroad called Sudurstrandarvegur on your way to relax at the Blue Lagoon before your departure. You will have access to the Retreat Spa and soak in geothermal waters. There is a restaurant in the Spa if you want to have a light meal. You can stay up to five hours in the Spa.
