Private Ice Cave Tour

SEASON

November - March

DURATION

3 - 4 hours

To get to the natural ice cave, we drive from Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon using a 4×4 Super Jeep to drive 35-45 minutes, mostly on a gravel off-road leading us near the glacier. Please note depending on conditions we might have to hike in the rugged glacier valley for up to 30 minutes to get to the majestic glacier. This is not a technical or difficult hike. The ice cave has already proven popular with its classic cave shape giving opportunities for great pictures. *Please note, although this is a private tour, due to the ice cave’s beauty and location the cave is visited by other companies which increases the likelihood of other visitors. We do our best to work alongside the other companies to give our guests the best possible experience. What you need to bring: Warm clothes (first layer), Waterproof outdoor clothing (second layer), Hiking boots, gloves and a hat. Note: Jeans are not recommended. Once it gets wet, it takes a long time to dry, leaving you cold. Provided on location: Glacier Gear and other safety equipment.  *Please note that the ice cave tour can be changed or cancelled depending on the weather conditions

Ice caves sometimes called Crystal Caves are natural phenomena and are formed in glaciers during winter. Most often they are formed by water running through or under the glacier and new caves are formed every year. They are found in the Vatnajökull National Park in South East Iceland and are only available to visit in the wintertime. Their forms, shapes and location change every year. Take a look into amazing blue ice cave with a glacier expert!
