The summertime in Iceland is normally considered to start in late May or early June and last through August. For travellers this is the most popular time to visit Iceland and experience the midnight sun that occurs during the Icelandic summer. The days keep getting longer and longer, until the longest day of the summer which is around the 21st of June.
After the summer solstice the day starts to get shorter only by one or two minutes each day. The increase in temperature is a good reason to visit during the summer even though it never really gets hot but we sometimes see temperatures up to 20°C | 68°F and the average temperature is around 10°C | 50°F.
There are not only travellers that like to visit Iceland during the summer there are also puffins and whales that you can find swimming around the coast of Iceland. We have the largest puffin colony in the world with estimate of 8-10 million bird that come here to breed during the warm summer months. You can expect to see whales and puffins from mid-April to September.
This season is perfect for nature lovers and adventure seekers to visit since there are so many things to do and the days are incredible long.
